Charley Hull made headlines before the 2026 AIG Women's Open even began this week. The LPGA fan favorite picked up a fake scratchcard from a Blackpool joke shop on Monday night, then slipped it to caddie Adam Woodward at Royal Lytham the next morning.
Woodward took the bait immediately. He scratched it off, saw the £100,000 prize, and sprinted around the players' lounge celebrating. He even threatened to take the day off.
Then Hull broke the news that it was a fake.

Not everyone found the Hull scratchcard stunt funny. Four-time major winner Dame Laura Davies called it "extremely cruel" during her commentary. Critics on social media piled on, too.
However, Hull didn't flinch. "People need to lighten up," she told reporters after her opening round at this year's British Open. She added that Woodward laughed it off and promised she'd "100%" do it again.
As for the backlash? "If people don't like it, they can lump it," she quipped.
LPGA Major Title Chase Continues for Charley Hull
The 30-year-old is now chasing a different kind of prize on home soil: her first major title. Hull has five runner-up finishes at LPGA majors, including two at this event.
With the 2026 AIG Women's Open purse tripled to $10 million, she's playing for more than laughs at Royal Lytham.
