Dallas Trinity FC changed hands and hired a manager within the same week. Atlético Dallas completed its acquisition of the Dallas women's soccer club on June 30, placing both organizations under the USL Dallas, LLC umbrella.
A Bold Ownership Shift for Dallas Women's Soccer
Atlético Dallas, a men's USL Championship expansion team, plans to launch in 2027. Dallas Trinity FC, meanwhile, will stay in the USL Super League, playing an abbreviated 2026 fall season due to the men's FIFA World Cup. They'll move to a spring-to-fall calendar in 2027 with home games remaining at the Cotton Bowl Stadium.
On July 2, just a few days after the owner change, the club tapped Lee Nguyen as its first team manager and technical director.
Nguyen spent five seasons as an assistant at four NWSL clubs, including the Washington Spirit during their 2021 title run. He also played professionally for 17 seasons in the MLS, Vietnam, Denmark, and the Netherlands.
In total, he made more than 250 appearances with the New England Revolution, LAFC, and Inter Miami CF. Nguyen also earned nine caps with the USMNT along the way.
Nguyen's Hire Comes During FIFA World Cup Fever
With the FIFA World Cup underway across North Texas, the hire comes at a critical time for soccer in the state.
Nguyen grew up in Richardson, attended Plano East Senior High School, and played college soccer at Indiana University. Now he returns to lead the Dallas women's soccer club where he first picked up the sport.
