Phoenix Mercury star Diana Taurasi is expected to miss at least four weeks with a chest injury, the team announced Tuesday.
Taurasi suffered a small fracture to her sternum in the Mercury’s May 16 game against Connecticut, Phoenix’s second of the regular season. A CT scan confirmed the injury this week after Taurasi played in games with the team on May 18 and May 21.
Despite the injury, Taurasi has averaged 15.8 points per game on 40.4 percent shooting through four games. Taurasi is just six points shy of becoming the first player in WNBA history to reach 9,000 career points.
The Mercury, currently 2-2, will push forward without Taurasi starting Wednesday, when they host the 2-2 Las Vegas Aces.
