Emily Fox expected to get opportunities for USWNT

Emily Fox is ready for her close-up after being named to the USWNT roster for the first time since January.

According to USWNT head coach Vlatko Andonovski, the defender is expected to factor heavily into the team’s rotation — especially with Crystal Dunn opting to sit out of the upcoming friendlies against Korea Republic.

“I feel comfortable saying that we’ll see a lot of Emily [Fox] in this camp,” Andonovski told reporters, adding that he plans to play the defender at left back.

Fox was drafted first overall by Racing Louisville in the 2021 NWSL Draft and has been making an impact. While Trinity Rodman remains the frontrunner for Rookie of the Year, Fox has been making a case of her own. She anchored the club’s defensive line through September, completing 557 successful passes in 16 appearances. During that time, she also had 40 clearances, 37 interceptions and five blocks as well as two shots on goal.

The USWNT is in action on Thursday against Korea Republic at 8 p.m. ET.
