Caitlin Clark's foul trouble caught up to her in Saturday night's Fever vs Liberty loss.
Clark exited the game with her fifth foul and 6:26 remaining in the fourth quarter. Indiana led by three, but lost 83-75 to New York in the highly anticipated WNBA Commissioner's Cup matchup.
Caitlin Clark's WNBA Stats in Fever vs. Liberty Loss
Caitlin Clark struggled from the field, going 4-for-14 on the night. Still, she filled the stat sheet in other areas.
The Fever guard posted seven rebounds and nine assists before her early exit. However, fouls have been a recurring issue for the two-time All-Star.
Clark picked up at least four in each of her last four games. Addressing recent criticism from WNBA pundits, she took responsibility for her whistle-drawing play after the loss.
"There was a couple that were just dumb tonight and that's on me," Clark said postgame.
And Clark's foul trouble wasn't the only factor in Indiana's loss to the Liberty.
Indiana Suffers Late-Game Collapse Against New York
The Fever missed 11 layups, including late looks from Aliyah Boston and Kelsey Mitchell that could have kept the game within reach. Head coach Stephanie White pointed to defensive rotations as a priority, saying her team needs to do a better job of keeping Clark out of foul trouble.
She also noted missed buckets as an area for improvement.
On the bright side, Monique Billings shined off the bench for Indiana. She scored 15 points and grabbed eight rebounds, giving the Fever consistent production as the starters struggled.
Indiana will now look to regroup against struggling Washington, taking on the Mystics on Monday at 7 PM ET, live on Peacock.
