DeShields won the 2021 WNBA Championship with the Chicago Sky, while Onyenwere was the 2021 WNBA Rookie of the Year as a member of the New York Liberty.
Since Onyenwere’s tweet in 2013, she has gained more than 7,400 followers — a 95.9 percent increase. For DeShields, an increase of more than 24,800 — or 92.7 percent of her followers — came after her tweet in 2013.
Over 39 billboards will go up across North America in eight cities: New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago, Toronto, Houston, Tampa and Talladega.
“With this campaign we’re celebrating a group of talented individuals who, through their own hard work and drive, were able to manifest and make the dreams they Tweeted their reality,” said Jenna Ross, manager of entertainment partnerships at Twitter. “We hope to help inspire countless others to dream big, put their goals out into the world and Tweet them into existence.”
The full list of celebrities includes Leonard Fournette, Bubba Wallace, Patrick Mahomes, Megan Thee Stallion, Simu Liu, Issa Rae, Niall Horan, Demi Lovato, Steve Saylor and Matthew Cherry.
As part of the campaign, Twitter is donating nearly $1 million to charities of the stars’ choice on their behalf. Included are the Boys and Girls Club, Destination Crenshaw, the 3-D Foundation and UNICEF Canada.
