She finished in a time of 1:13.73, 0.05 seconds behind Norwayâs Ragnhild Mowinckel who took first in a time of 1:13.68. Itâs Shiffrinâs 120th career podium across all disciplines.
The finish comes one day after Shiffrin won her first downhill race in two years and extended her lead over defending champion and rival Petra VlhovĂĄ. After finishing 16th in downhill, VlhovĂĄ needed to finish no worse than seventh to prevent Shiffrin from extending her lead. The Slovakian finished 17th in the super-G, outside of the top 15 scoring places, to trail Shiffrin in the overall race by 236 points.
Itâs Shiffrinâs fourth crystal globe trophy and first since 2019. She won three straight from 2017 to 2019. Italyâs Federica Brignone won in 2020 before VlhovĂĄ took home the title in 2021.
Prior to the race and due to a strong season, Brignone claimed the super-G overall title for the first time. She placed 19th on Thursday and is currently third in the overall standings.
Shiffrin is tied for the second-most world cup titles by any woman with American Lindsey Vonn who also won four overall titles in her career. Austrian great Annemarie Moser-Pröll still holds the record with six titles that were won in the 1970s.
It’s a triumphant finish to the season for Shiffrin, coming one month after she struggled to complete a number of her races at the Beijing Olympics.
The season will conclude with slalom and giant slalom, two of Shiffrinâs specialties, over the weekend.
