The Metropolitan Riveters secured a 3-2 overtime victory over the Boston Pride on Sunday thanks to overtime heroics from Madison Packer.

The Riveters’ captain earned first star of the game for her performance, notching one goal and one assist.
“The work is finally starting to pay off,” Packer said postgame. “We’re getting pucks into the net. This weekend we’ve gotten more pucks in the net than all season.
“We’re coming alive at the right time and hopefully we can enjoy this and take care of business next weekend.”
Taylor Wenczkowski got Boston on the board first with a goal 15 minutes into the first period. She was assisted by Kali Flanagan and Jillian Dempsey.
The Riveters would pull even in the second period, with Mallory Rushton notching one off of an assist from Packer. Second star of the game Rebecca Russo would score another for the Riveters just over three minutes later to make the score 2-1 in favor of the home team. Boston would score again in the second period to make it 2-2.
A scoreless third period sent the two teams into overtime.
Riveters goalie Sonjia Shelly earned the third star of the game, stopping 40 of the 42 shots she faced. The Riveters had 35 shots on goal.
The team made history last month when they debuted a Black Rosie jersey, the first hockey jersey to feature a Black woman at the center of its crest.
