A WSL icon is exiting Stamford Bridge, as Chelsea confirmed star striker Sam Kerr will not renew her contract after more than six years with the Blues.
Sam Kerr joined Chelsea in late 2019 on a then-rare $1 million deal before racking up five WSL titles, three FA Cups, three League Cups and 115 goals — one shy of Fran Kirby's all-time scoring record heading into Saturday's WSL season finale against Manchester United.
"When I reflect on my Chelsea career and doing it for the last time, I just feel happy," Kerr said in a team statement. "I feel so grateful to have played for this club for six years and won as many trophies as we could."
Kerr, Chelsea's fourth-highest appearance maker with 157 matches, earned back-to-back WSL Golden Boot awards in 2020/21 and 2021/22 as the Blues claimed consecutive titles. She netted 29 goals across 38 appearances in 2022/23, winning Chelsea's Player of the Season, WSL Player of the Year, and the Football Writers Association's Women's Footballer of the Year.
The 32-year-old struggled with injury in recent years, starting in just four 2025/26 WSL matches after coming back from a January 2024 ACL tear. She scored upon her return against Aston Villa in September, before striking twice against St Polten in Champions League play.
Kerr netted 16 goals in 29 appearances across all competitions this season. She became Chelsea's all-time WSL top scorer earlier this month, reaching 64 goals after scoring against Leicester.
Multiple NWSL clubs reportedly show interest in bringing Kerr back to the league where she remains the all-time leading scorer.
