Serena and Venus Williams are coming together to play doubles at the US Open to mark the end of Serena’s tennis career.
The sisters accepted a wild-card entry to the doubles tournament, which will start Wednesday. They have won 14 career major doubles titles, all as a team, including two at the US Open in 1999 and 2009.
Serena, 40, announced her plans to retire after the Grand Slam in a Vogue cover story earlier this month. The tournament starts Monday in New York City.
A 23-time major singles champion, Williams, 40, won her first major singles title at the US Open as a 17-year-old in 1999. She went on to win the tournament at Flushing Meadows six times in her career, most recently in 2014.
Her elder sister Venus, 42, has won seven major singles titles, including the US Open twice, in 2000 and 2001.
Both will play in the singles bracket at this year’s tournament as well. Unseeded Serena will play Danka Kovinić in the first round Monday night, while wild-card entry Venus Williams will face Alison van Uytvanck in her first-round match Tuesday afternoon.
