Both the U.S. women’s national team and the England women’s national team will be without key players during Friday’s matchup.
The USWNT announced on Wednesday that forward Mallory Pugh will miss both friendly matches against England and Spain due to a family commitment and will not be replaced. She is the second top forward for the USWNT to miss the two friendlies after Alex Morgan was left off the roster due to a knee injury.

Taylor Kornieck and Kelley O’Hara will also miss the games due to injury.
England, meanwhile, loses another key player in captain Leah Williamson after she sustained an injury during training. Williamson, who was further evaluated by the club after appearing in a protective boot and on crutches, has returned to her club team, Arsenal.
“Leah’s a great leader, and of course we’ll miss her. We have such great depth in our squad and so much strength in our squad,” forward Chloe Kelly said of her departure.
“There are so many great players with experience so it’s all about coming together in these moments where you do lose a player like Leah, and supporting Leah in her rehab. The strength in our squad is very good and that really helped us in the summer.”
Williamson is the second major England player to pull out of the match after Alessia Russo was sidelined with an injury. Lucy Parker, in her first call-up to the national team, also sustained an injury during the League Cup at London City and will miss the matches.
“Football can be cruel, and this feeling will take some time to process,” Parker wrote on Twitter. “Heartbroken doesn’t cover it. Another obstacle to overcome, but I will be back stronger once again.”
Defender Lotte Wubben-Moy and forward Nikita Parris have been called up in their place.
