Mike Thibault, the WNBA’s all-time winningest coach, is staying in Washington under a multi-year contract extension, the team announced Wednesday.

“After our last two years with the pandemic and injuries, I am looking forward to getting back to a full, healthy team,” Thibault said in a release. “I am excited for the offseason and what we can do to reset our team.”

Thibault first joined the team in 2012 and during his tenure led the Mystics to their first WNBA Championship in 2019. The team has also made two WNBA Finals appearances, in 2018 and 2019, as well as seven total postseason appearances.

A three-time WNBA Coach of the Year, the 2021 season saw Thibault record his 350th career win in the team’s game against Atlanta on June 17.

Additionally, associate head coach Eric Thibault, Mike’s son, assistant coach LaToya Sanders and assistant general manager Maria Giovannetti have all signed extensions with the team.
