As the verdict came down on the Derek Chauvin trial — guilty on all three counts, including second degree murder — WNBA teams and personnel reacted on Twitter.

The Minnesota Lynx released the following statement alongside the Timberwolves, stating: “We are hopeful today’s decision will serve as a step forward, but it does not ease the physical and emotional pain that continues in an environment where systemic racism exists.”

The WNBA also released a statement from commissioner Cathy Engelbert:

The WNBAPA tweeted out the following with the caption “Yes, Gianna Floyd, your Dad has changed the world.”

The Seattle Storm also responded, stating that, “all the justice in the world, which the verdict does not come close to providing, is no substitute for life.”

The Los Angeles Sparks also tweeted in support of the verdict.

The Washington Mystics’ statement read, “While justice has been rightfully served in the case of George Floyd, we continue to mourn his loss and must not forget the countless others who have suffered injustice in countless ways throughout our country’s history.”

The Phoenix Mercury released the following statement.
