Shelby Houlihan did not compete in the U.S. Olympic trials on Friday after much confusion.
The American runner recently announced her suspension from the sport after testing positive for the anabolic steroid nandrolone. Houlihan has since blamed the positive test result on a potentially contaminated pork burrito she ate.
The Court of Arbitration has upheld the Athletics Integrity Unit’s ruling of a four-year ban following the distance runner’s positive test result. The suspension meant Houlihan would not be able to compete in the 2021 Olympics. However, USA Track and Field announced Houlihan would be permitted to run in the Olympic trials while her appeals to the case are active. The body then reversed its decision, stating that no banned athletes could compete.
If Houlihan wished to appeal the Court of Arbitration’s ruling, the runner could take the case to the Federal Supreme Court of Switzerland. However, there is no record of Houlihan doing so as of the Olympic trials.
