Sifan Hassan of the Netherlands has captured gold in the 5,000m.

The Dutch distance runner clocked a time of 14:36.79, besting silver medalist Hellen Obiri of Kenya and Ethiopia’s Gudaf Tsegay, who came in third.

Hassan’s groundbreaking race came only hours after she fell, then remarkably recovered in her 1,500m preliminary heat.

The Dutchwoman is now one step closer to her unprecedented goal of taking home gold in the 1,500, 5,000 and 10,000 meters.

Hassan will race in the 1,500m semifinal on Wednesday.
