Alexandra Eala opened her 2026 Wimbledon campaign with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Mexico's Renata Zarazua on Tuesday. The 21-year-old Filipina needed just one hour and 18 minutes to reach the All England Club's second round.
Alexandra Eala Continues Grass-Court Swing Against Zarazua at Wimbledon
Alexandra Eala entered the tournament as the No. 29 seed after a strong grass-court swing. She captured a title in Birmingham and reached the semifinals in Berlin earlier this month. That form carried over against world No. 75 Zarazua from the opening game.
The players traded early holds before Eala pulled away. She reeled off the next four games to open a 5-1 cushion in the first set. Only one extended service game tested her resolve when she let a 40-0 advantage slip and needed seven trips to deuce before finally earning the break.
The second set followed a similar pattern. Eala jumped ahead early and never let Zarazua gain a foothold. She closed out the match with a clean forehand in the eighth game.
Next up, Eala faces either wildcard entry Serena Williams or Australia's Maya Joint in Wimbledon's second round.
