Naomi Osaka opened her 2026 Wimbledon campaign by making a statement before she even hit a ball.
The four-time Grand Slam champion walked onto Court 3 in a floor-length white kimono gown, threading Japanese tradition into the tournament's strict dress code.
Custom Naomi Osaka Wimbledon Dress Honors Japanese Heritage
Designed by Tokyo-based Hana Yagi and styled by Marty Harper, the robe featured crane and cherry blossom embroidery, an obi-style belt, and a tulle skirt up-cycled from vintage bridal garments. Beneath it, Osaka's custom Nike dress carried the theme, with 3D floral details and a scalloped hem inspired by kirigami, the Japanese art of paper cutting.
Osaka's 2026 Wimbledon dress honored Japanese heritage, but the world No. 14 also had cinema in mind.
"I love Kill Bill," she said. "I remembered absolutely falling in love with Lucy Liu's character. She has an all-white kimono, and I remember thinking that was really cool and amazing."
She hinted more looks are coming as she continue her Grand Slam run at the All England Club.
"I like to shake things up," Osaka said. "I try to mix it up every round."
On the London grass court, Osaka's game is matching her fashion. She beat France's Elsa Jacquemot 6-1, 7-5 in her Wimbledon opener, before dismissing Anastasia Gasanova 6-3, 6-2 to advance to the third round.
She next faces Australia's Daria Kasatkina on Friday, live on ESPN.
