Fever guard Caitlin Clark is all-in on Indianapolis, as the Indy 500 named the WNBA superstar this year’s grand marshal — giving her ceremonial starting command over Sunday’s Greatest Spectacle in Racing.
“Since being drafted by the Fever, fans have been clamoring to share the epic celebration and thrilling excitement of Indy 500 Race Day with Caitlin,” INDYCAR president J. Douglas Boles said.
“Caitlin will bring unique energy and presence to a quintessentially Hoosier experience and an absolutely bucket list global sporting spectacle.”
Clark wasn’t able to accept the honor in her first two seasons due to Indiana’s schedule. However, she gets her first taste of racing action this weekend.
“I’m looking forward to experiencing an iconic piece of what makes Indiana so special,” Clark said in a statement.
Clark is not the first Indiana player to serve as grand marshal. She follows in the footsteps of 2012 WNBA champion Tamika Catchings.
“To experience that as the grand marshal, it’s one of the highest honors you can get in the state of Indiana,” Fever coach Stephanie White said.
Where to Watch Caitlin Clark at the Indy 500
Clark will offer the traditional command for drivers to get into their cars before the Indy 500 race. The ceremony will air live on FOX’s Race Day, kicking off on Sunday at 10 AM ET.
