Sug Sutton is heading back to Texas, as the Dallas Wings signed the veteran point guard to a rest-of-season deal on Monday. To make room on the roster, Dallas waived sophomore guard JJ Quinerly.
Why the Dallas Wings Added WNBA Veteran Sug Sutton
The move comes after an ankle injury to guard Odyssey Sims left Dallas short on ball handlers earlier in the season. Leading scorer Paige Bueckers also suffered an ankle injury in a recent WNBA Commissioner's Cup game, putting her on standby in the team's loss to the Portland Fire over the weekend.
The Wings' front office acted quickly, adding a proven playmaker who can run an up-tempo offense to keep the roster at the required 12 players.
Sug Sutton's Player Stats with the Mystics and Fire
Sutton started 43 games for the Washington Mystics in 2025 before joining WNBA expansion team Portland during the 2026 offseason. In her three games with the Fire, she averaged 11.3 points and 5.7 assists per game. Now, however, she returns to her home state as a steadying presence on both ends of the floor.
Quinerly, meanwhile, leaves after a difficult stretch. Dallas selected the defensive standout from West Virginia in the third round of the 2025 WNBA Draft.
She stepped in during an injury crisis last summer, but a meniscus tear ended her rookie season. She subsequently saw limited floor time in 2026.
With Sutton in the fold, the Wings add backcourt depth for a potential playoff push. They'll test their new acquisition in a tough matchup against the Las Vegas Aces tonight at 8 PM ET, live on USA Network.
