Gabby Williams ‘Made the right choice’ as France wins Olympic bronze

France took home the bronze medal in women’s basketball on Saturday, defeating Serbia 91-76.

The bronze-medal game was a re-match of Rio’s third-place contest, where Serbia came out on top.

Gabby Williams led France to a redemptive place on the podium, notching 17 points and eight rebounds. Endene Miyem and Sandrine Gruda added to France’s tally, contributing 16 and 14 points each.

Williams, who plays in the WNBA, was suspended by the Chicago Sky then traded to the Sparks in May after she announced her decision to play for the French national team this summer.

“I made the right choice,” Williams said following the bronze-medal victory.

“I did what I was supposed to do, and I couldn’t be happier.”

Tokyo marks France’s second women’s basketball Olympic medal after winning silver in 2012.
