Gotham FC has started the 2021 NWSL season with a win at home.
The Dash, despite controlling possession for most of the game and out-shooting Gotham, failed to capitalize on their chances in the final third, leaving the door open for the home team. Gotham took advantage in a 1-0 win Saturday night.
The night’s lone goal came in the 30th minute when Evelyne Viens collected a turnover in the midfield and charged toward Houston’s back line.
Drawing a swarm of defenders, Viens dished the ball out wide to Midge Purce. The forward used some fancy footwork to get a low shot off to the far post and past Jane Campbell to put Gotham up 1-0.

Kailen Sheridan came up big for Gotham, making four saves to keep Houston off the score sheet in the second half.
Gotham’s win over Houston was the club’s first at Red Bull Arena.
Houston will now head home to host Kansas City next Sunday. Gotham will travel to Chicago for a game against the Red Stars on Saturday.
