The WTA DC Open is losing some of its star power before the event even begins. Four high-ranking players have withdrawn from the WTA 500 event ahead of its July 27th main draw, a sign of the toll a packed WTA calendar is taking on the sport's top competitors.
Who Withdrew From the 2026 Mubadala Citi DC Open?
Jasmine Paolini is the most notable absence. The Italian pulled out due to a lingering foot injury that has sidelined her for much of the 2026 season.
Her doubles partner Sara Errani will still compete, teaming up with Nicole Melichar-Martinez as the top seed. Marta Kostyuk, Victoria Mboko, and Karolina Muchova round out the list of notable withdrawals.
Still, the field is filled with plenty of tough competitors.
Leylah Fernandez, Jessica Pegula Headline Remaining WTA DC Open Field
Defending champion Leylah Fernandez returns with a shot at going back-to-back in both singles and doubles. Jessica Pegula, the 2019 champion, is also entered. Meanwhile, Alexandra Eala will team up with Venus Williams for a doubles run.
The tournament kicks off the hardcourt season and ends August 2nd. From there, the WTA calendar only intensifies as the National Bank Open in Toronto begins that same day, followed by the Cincinnati Open and then the US Open starting August 30th.
