Minnesota Frost captain and USA hockey star Kendall Coyne Schofield announced she'll miss the 2026/27 PWHL season this week, after news broke that she's pregnant with her second child.
The two-time Olympic gold medalist broke the news on X with a photo of her son Drew decked out in a "big bro" cap. She captioned the post with a simple "Coming soon..."

Coyne Schofield to Miss New PWHL Season, World Championships
The 34-year-old veteran had been practicing with Team USA in Michigan, ahead of the women's world ice hockey championships in Denmark. Despite participating in the pre-tournament camp, Coyne Schofield won't be traveling with the team to the event next week. The news arrives only months after she re-upped with the Frost, signing a new two-year deal in August.
"Kendall means so much to our team both on and off the ice," Frost GM Melissa Caruso wrote on X. "We can't wait to welcome the newest member of the Frost family next year."
Coyne Schofield has been central to the PWHL since its founding, playing a key role in negotiating the league's first CBA in 2023. Through 77 career games, she's tallied 30 goals and 63 points while helping Minnesota claim back-to-back Walter Cup titles.
But now, the Frost faces the 2026/27 season without one of professional women's hockey's most decorated stars.
