Sophie Cunningham is weighing in on the Indiana Fever front office changes that swept through the WNBA franchise last week. The guard and 2027 free agent said the back-to-back departures came without much warning, but she remains optimistic about what's ahead for Indiana.
What Happened During the Fever Front Office Changes?
Indiana dismissed GM Amber Cox on October 23rd, on the heels of team president Kelly Krauskopf's resignation earlier that same day.
Cox had held the dual GM and COO title since joining Indiana in 2024. She oversaw a period of massive fan interest that also brought increased scrutiny over player conduct and fan behavior. Neither the team nor Krauskopf and Cox have commented publicly on the reasons behind the moves.
How Did Sophie Cunningham React?
But Cunningham, who arrived via trade from Phoenix soon after both execs took office, offered her take on the staffing change.
"There was not a lot of warning, and that's OK," she said, before adding that both Krauskopf and Cox were "phenomenal, phenomenal people" who "cared about us as players and as people not on the court."
Still, she appeared open to what comes next.
"Hopefully, the Fever come in and bring people who can do a really good job with that program," Cunningham said.
Both Cox and Krauskopf defended Cunningham during the 2026 season after the guard's anti trans athlete comments sparked protests and rallies ahead of Fever games.
With the pair gone and Cunningham a free agent, her return to Indiana feels even less certain now.
