Iga Świątek opened her hard-court run in Toronto with a 6-0, 6-3 win over Sara Bejlek in the 2026 Canadian Open. The WTA star scored an early lead. Then, however, she had to grind.
Świątek conceded just 11 points in the first set. She hit seven winners against only three unforced errors to take it in under 30 minutes. By the time she led 3-0 in the second, a bagel-bagel finish looked possible.
But Bejlek found another gear.

The world No. 38 changed speeds, came forward, and forced Świątek out of her comfort zone. One 19-stroke rally showcased the variety that earned Bejlek her first WTA title in Abu Dhabi earlier this year.
Still, the turning point came at 3-2. Świątek ground through a 13-deuce service game, saving nine break points before holding. She finished with 24 unforced errors in the second set alone. That's a number she'll want to clean up moving forward in Toronto.
"There were for sure a few tricky games, especially the long one. I haven't played a game like that in some time," Świątek said afterward.
