Sunday’s top-5 matchup between South Carolina and UConn ended in more than just a big win for the No. 1 Gamecocks.
The game drew 1.087 million viewers on Fox, making it the most-viewed women’s basketball game ever on that network. The rematch of the 2022 national title game also stands as the most-watched regular-season game in women’s college basketball across all networks since 2017, per Fox Sports.

South Carolina’s 64-49 win against UConn in the NCAA tournament final last April averaged 4.85 million viewers across broadcast and streaming platforms, including 4.45 million viewers on ESPN. That game was the most-watched college basketball game on ESPN since 2008.
In 2023, the national championship game will air on ABC for the first time. The game will air at 3 p.m. ET Sunday, April 2, from the American Airlines Center in Dallas. ESPN will broadcast the Final Four contests, set for 7 and 9:30 p.m. on Friday, March 31.
The records come amid a surge in viewership across women’s sports.
The 2022 NWSL title match drew 915,000 viewers on CBS, an increase of 71% from the 2021 final. Last year brought the WNBA its most-watched regular season in 14 years and its most-watched postseason in 15 years. The 2021 NCAA women’s volleyball final drew 1.2 million viewers on ESPN2.
With two months left in the college basketball season, the sport could break even more viewership records in 2023.
