The field is officially set for the 2026 Women's College World Series, as three of the tournament's Top 4 national seeds feature on this year's WCWS schedule.

After a cutthroat super regional round, eight teams punched their tickets to Oklahoma City. The double-elimination tournament begins Thursday, May 28th, with the best-of-three championship series following June 3rd.

Alabama Softball Kicks off Opening Day Action

Top-ranked Alabama leads the field alongside defending champion Texas. However, Mississippi State provided the biggest NCAA softball bracket upset. The Bulldogs snapped Oklahoma's nine-year WCWS appearance streak, winning the super regionals showdown.

The action-packed WCWS schedule kicks off with four marquee matchups on Thursday.

First, Mississippi State makes its tournament debut against Texas Tech. In the second game, 2025 champion Texas clashes with SEC rival Tennessee.

The evening sessions feature a high-stakes battle between Alabama and UCLA softball. Nebraska subsequently closes out the opening day slate against Arkansas.

Championship Finals

Texas Tech softball punched its ticket to the 2026 Women's College World Series after defeating Florida softball 16-7 in Sunday's fiery NCAA softball super regional finale.

And the three-game series in Gainesville delivered the drama — both on and off the field — as Texas Tech star Mia Williams sat at the center of the controversy.

The standout infielder previously played for Florida before transferring to the Red Raiders. During the weekend series, Williams took her base in five different hit-by-pitches. Williams responded with her bat, smashing a game-winning, two-run home run in Game 1 and launching another critical two-run play in Game 3.

Mia Williams's Father Jason Fuels Texas Tech vs Florida Tension

Williams's father, retired NBA star Jason Williams, contributed to the on-field tension.

Security briefly escorted the former Florida guard from Game 1 after a confrontation with a fan. During Game 3, he later celebrated his daughter's success by performing a mocking "Gator Chomp" while standing next to Florida's dugout.

Williams subsequently made a point to call out Florida head coach Tim Walton. However, the bad blood extended to the players on the diamond.

Following Sunday's loss, Florida players reportedly skipped the traditional postgame handshake. Walton — who was ejected in the fifth inning for arguing calls with the officials — stood by his team's decision not to engage with Texas Tech following the clash.

"Maybe that was for the better with the anxiety of the series," Walton told press. "On TV, they were saying there might be a bench-clearing brawl. Never seen that in softball in my life."

With the win, Texas Tech and Mia Williams advance to the 2026 Women’s College World Series, while Florida will look to regroup before embarking on another NCAA softball campaign next season.

Tennessee opened the 2026 NCAA softball super regionals with a statement victory on Thursday night, as the No. 7 seed Lady Vols defeated the No. 10 seed Georgia Bulldogs 3-1.

With the win, Tennessee moves within one victory of securing a spot in the Women's College World Series.

Tennessee Softball Takes Lead Off Early Home Runs

Tennessee's offense surged immediately in the bottom of the first inning, as Sophia Knight launched a solo home run to left-center field.

Moments later, Emma Clarke followed with another blast to center field. The pair's consecutive home runs gave the Lady Vols a rapid 2-0 advantage.

Then Georgia responded in the top of the second inning, as Emily Digby hit her own homer to put the Bulldogs on the board.

Lady Vols Pitcher Karlyn Pickens Turns Things Around

However, Tennessee ace Karlyn Pickens quickly regained control, delivering a dominant performance on the mound. She struck out 10 batters and consistently frustrated the Bulldogs' lineup.

Tennessee added an insurance run in the bottom of the fifth inning when Alannah Leach crushed the third home run of the night.

The Bulldogs mounted a final threat in the top of the seventh inning, managing to load the bases against Pickens with two outs. But, despite the pressure, Pickens forced the final out to seal the victory.

How to Watch Tennessee vs Georgia NCAA Softball Super Regional

Tennessee and Georgia return to the field for Game 2 of the NCAA softball super regionals series on Friday at 3 PM ET, live on ESPN2.

Texas Tech softball defeated Florida 10-8 in Game 1 of the NCAA softball super regionals on Friday, moving one win away from the 2026 Women's College World Series.

The Red Raiders manage to eke out the result despite giving up four home runs and allowing the Gators to erase a 7-1 deficit.

Texas Tech trailed 1-0 in the fourth inning, before three straight doubles put the 2025 WCWS runners-up on top 3-1. Lauren Allred then crushed a three-run shot in the fifth inning, igniting a Red Raiders surge with Quiroga tacking on a solo homer.

Florida, however, answered back. Four fifth- and sixth-inning bombs brought home seven runners, as the Gators pulled level at 8-8 heading into the seventh. That's when Mia Williams sealed the deal with a go-ahead two-run homer after Laci Quiroga drew a leadoff walk, securing the 10-8 final result.

Aces NiJaree Canady and Kaitlyn Terry split pitching duties for the Raiders, allowing five earned runs off nine total hits.

Raiders Ace NiJaree Canady Signs Softball NIL Deal with AUSL

NiJaree Canady also made headlines off the field, signing an NIL partnership with Athletes Unlimited Softball League (AUSL) that includes an equity share in the expanding pro league.

Canady joins Tennessee pitcher Karlyn Pickens and Texas catcher Reese Atwood in signing NIL deals with AUSL, with the players expected to contribute to the league's social media content and brand campaigns.

The senior went 21-4 last season with a 1.30 ERA and 194 strikeouts, leading Texas Tech softball to the 2025 national championship game. Canady was selected No. 2 overall by the Texas Volts in the 2026 AUSL Draft, with plans to join the professional outfit once the WCWS concludes in June.

How to Watch Texas Tech vs Florida NCAA Super Regionals Game 2

Texas Tech now needs just one more win in the best-of-three super regionals series to reach Oklahoma City. The Red Raiders and Gators kick off Game 2 tomorrow at 12:30 PM ET, live on ESPN.

Heavy rain halted Thursday night's NCAA softball super regionals action between Nebraska and Oklahoma State in the first inning.

Now, coach Kenny Gajewski and the No. 13 seed Cowgirls look to restart their postseason push on Friday afternoon. The squad faces the No. 4 seed Cornhuskers in the opening match of the best-of-three series in Lincoln.

Nearby lightning strikes forced officials to suspend play during the bottom of the first inning with the score tied at 0-0. Nebraska’s Hannah Coor had just hit into a fielder's choice, leaving a runner on first base with two outs before weather became a deciding factor.

Initially, tournament officials planned a late-night restart, but persistent storms forced a full postponement.

Because of the delay, the teams will restart Game 1 on Friday at 5 PM ET at Bowlin Stadium. Fans can watch the live NCAA softball broadcast on ESPN2.

NCAA Softball Super Regionals Shift Slate After Nebraska Delay

As a result of the shift, officials altered the rest of the NCAA softball super regionals weekend schedule.

The revised Nebraska vs Oklahoma State softball slate includes:

Both programs entered the postseason with strong records. Oklahoma State holds a 41-15 sheet, while Nebraska stands at 49-6 in 2026. The winner of the series will advance to the Women's College World Series in Oklahoma City.

The opening weekend of the 2026 NCAA DI softball tournament wrapped up on Sunday as the league's best regional teams solidified the Super Regionals Softball 2026 bracket.

Top national seeds like Texas, Oklahoma, and Florida showcased dominance, narrowing the initial 64-team field down to the final 16. The surviving programs now advance to the best-of-three Super Regional — with a ticket to the Women's College World Series on the line.

Sixth-seeded Florida led the weekend's biggest stories, capping off a three-game sweep in Gainesville with a decisive 5-2 victory over Georgia Tech on Sunday. Meanwhile, Oklahoma's pitching staff answered recent defensive concerns by allowing only one run across three consecutive victories.

Top-seeded Texas also cruised through its home regional, shutting out the competition to assert its status as a repeat title favorite.

Top Seeds Advance Across Super Regionals Softball 2026 Bracket

The weekend results locked in the official matchups for the upcoming best-of-three NCAA softball series later this week.

The Longhorns will welcome Arizona State in Austin, marking their seventh consecutive Super Regional appearance. Meanwhile, the No. 3 Oklahoma Sooners continue their postseason run at home against Mississippi State.

Elsewhere, No. 4 Nebraska will host No. 13 Oklahoma State in Lincoln, and No. 5 Arkansas will face a tough test against its regional challenger. Other programs hosting series this weekend include Florida, Tennessee, Alabama, and UCLA.

Live Broadcast Schedule and Road to 2026 WCWS

The upcoming slate officially begins on Thursday, May 21st. The winners of these eight regional matchups will punch their tickets to Devon Park in Oklahoma City for the 2026 Women's College World Series.

The NCAA softball weekend lineup will broadcast live across ESPN networks, including ESPN, ESPN2, and ABC.

Athletes Unlimited Softball League (AUSL) made a historic move this week, signing Tennessee senior pitcher Karlyn Pickens to the first-ever NIL deal with a pro league seen in the NCAA sport.

As part of her contract, Pickens will use social media and participate in other marketing opportunities to promote the newly expanded AUSL as the premier place for NCAA athletes to launch their professional softball careers.

"When I was growing up, I didn't really see [pro] softball… I didn't really think there was an option to go pro," said the Lady Vols star in Wednesday's AUSL announcement. "It's been just a few years, and now everyone's dream is to go to AUSL and continue their softball career."

After kicking off her NCAA tenure as the 2023 SEC Freshman of the Year, the two-time All-American and reigning Softball American Pitcher of the Year posted a 1.17 ERA across her 44 appearances last season, leading the Lady Vols from the circle all the way to the Women's College World Series semifinals in Oklahoma City.

Pickens also shattered records along the way, becoming the first collegiate ace to top Tennessee legend Monica Abbott's fastest NCAA pitch mark of 77mph from 2012 with a 78.2mph throw last March — before breaking her own record by hurling a blistering 79.4mph pitch at the Super Regionals last May.

Making NIL history this week is likely the 22-year-old's first step with the AUSL, which recently locked its six teams into home cities across the US last month — including assigning the Blaze to Pickens's home state of North Carolina.

"I never would've imagined that the pro softball league is what it is now, but it's also come to my home state," said Pickens.

Pickens will kick off her senior season with No. 4-ranked Tennessee at this week's 2026 NFCA Leadoff Classic, where the Vols' slate includes clashes against No. 23 Liberty and No. 5 Oregon, among others.

Tennessee will begin the invitational against unranked BYU at 7 PM ET on Thursday, with live coverage of the tilt streaming on GameChanger.

SEC firepower will fuel the 2025 Women's College World Series (WCWS), as No. 2 Oklahoma, No. 3 Florida, No. 6 Texas, No. 7 Tennessee, and unseeded Ole Miss all advanced out of this weekend's Super Regionals to book trips to Oklahoma City.

The SEC's five teams ties the record for most WCWS-bound squads from a single conference, with the additions of former Big 12 powerhouses Oklahoma and Texas notably boosting the league's WCWS roster this year.

Big Ten newcomers No. 9 UCLA and No. 16 Oregon plus the Big 12's No. 12 Texas Tech round out the eight teams entering the double-elimination tournament later this week, all battling for one of two spots in next week's best-of-three championship series.

Despite coming into the postseason as the No. 2 seed, the Sooners are still the team to beat as they hunt their fifth straight NCAA softball title.

With their 18th program ticket to OKC, Oklahoma's consistency in advancing to the national championship's last stop is dwarfed only by UCLA: The Bruins have appeared in 34 editions of the WCWS, missing the final cut only nine times in NCAA history.

In contrast, both Ole Miss and Texas Tech will be making their WCWS debuts after upsetting top seeds last weekend.

The Rebels, who first eliminated No. 13 Arizona in Regionals, outlasted No. 4 Arkansas to book their first-ever WCWS trip on Sunday.

Meanwhile, the Red Raiders are flying high behind transfer pitcher and 2024 National Player of the Year NiJaree Canady, emerging victorious in their first-ever Super Regional with two straight wins over No. 5 Florida State.

How to watch the 2025 Women's College World Series

Oklahoma City veterans and debutants alike will begin their WCWS campaigns on Thursday, when all teams will contend in the tournament's initial four games.

Kicking off the 2025 WCWS is an all-SEC afternoon session, with No. 6 Texas facing No. 3 Florida at 12 PM ET before No. 7 Tennessee takes on No. 2 Oklahoma at 2:30 PM ET.

Evening play pits the newcomers against each other as Ole Miss clashes with No. 12 Texas Tech at 7 PM ET, with a Big Ten battle between No. 16 Oregon and No. 9 UCLA closing out the night at 9:30 PM ET.

Live coverage of the afternoon games will air on ESPN, with ESPN2 broadcasting the two evening matchups.

After a first-round weekend of pitcher's duels and red-hot bats, the 2025 NCAA softball tournament's best-of-three Super Regionals field is set — and it's missing four of the 16 national seeds.

No. 10 LSU fell on Saturday after two upset losses to unseeded SE Louisiana, before Sunday saw No. 13 Arizona and No. 14 Duke follow suit while unseeded Ole Miss, Georgia, and Nebraska all punched second-round tickets.

Eventually ousting SE Louisiana in the winners' bracket to advance to their first Super Regionals in 11 years, the Huskers rode in on the back of two-time All-American pitcher Jordy Bahl, with the Oklahoma transfer throwing 12 innings and hitting four home runs across Nebraska's three Regional games.

Elsewhere, unseeded Liberty booked a program-first trip to the Supers by eliminating top-seed Texas A&M — the first time the NCAA bracket's overall No. 1 seed failed to advance from Regionals.

Should they similarly bounce No. 16 Oregon this weekend, Liberty will become just the second mid-major team to make the Women's College World Series (WCWS) since 2014, joining James Madison's 2021 Cinderella run.

Rounding out the rest of the Super Regional round's 16 teams are No. 2 Oklahoma, No. 3 Florida, No. 4 Arkansas, No. 5 Florida State, No. 6 Texas, No. 7 Tennessee, and No. 8 South Carolina, as well as No. 9 UCLA, No. 11 Clemson, No. 12 Texas Tech, No. 15 Alabama, and the aforementioned No. 16 Ducks.

Super Regional weekend to feature blockbuster matchups

The 16 contenders will battle head-to-head for eight available WCWS berths, with the four-time defending champion Sooners now leading the field.

To advance, however, Oklahoma must first outlast Alabama, a team with which the Sooners have a long, contentious postseason history — the pair have faced off in five of the last 12 NCAA tournaments.

After Oklahoma bounced Alabama from the 2019 WCWS semifinals — the last time the pair squared off before becoming SEC rivals — the Tide enacted revenge by narrowly beating the Sooners in April's conference play, teeing up a tense weekend Super Regional series.

After narrowly missing this weekend's hosting rights as the No. 9 seed — UCLA's lowest seeding since 2016 — the Bruins proved why they are the sport's winningest program, run-ruling ever Regional game while allowing just two runs all weekend.

The 12-time champions will now travel to Gamecock territory, where No. 8 South Carolina will try to boost the Bruins and book their first WCWS ticket in 28 years.

Powerhouses still rule the diamond, but parity has never been higher in college softball, with this year's NCAA tournament already delivering whiplash results.
