Teenage standout Alyssa Thompson, who played for the U.S. youth national team at the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup in August, received her first senior call-up Thursday.

U.S. women’s national team coach Vlatko Andonovski named her to the 24-player roster for a European tour that will begin Friday, Oct. 7, with a match against England at Wembley Stadium in London.

The 17-year-old is the youngest player to earn a call-up for a full national team camp since Sophia Smith was tabbed at 16 years old back in April 2017.

“We are very excited about her potential and qualities, and we are looking forward to seeing how she is going to turn out in our environment,” Andonovski said.

Andonovski added that Thompson has a “good understanding of the game,” and said he is excited to see how she will fit into the USWNT’s system.

Thompson, a high school senior from Studio City, California, was named the Gatorade National Girls Soccer Player of the Year as a sophomore in 2020-21.

Thompson plays for the U17 Total Futbol boys team in MLS NEXT, and along with her younger sister, Gisele, is committed to play college soccer at Stanford.

As part of the USYNT, the forward scored a goal and recorded an assist in a U20 World Cup matchup against Ghana in August.

Absent from the USWNT roster for October’s international window is star forward Alex Morgan, who was left off due to a knee injury, per the team news release. Morgan’s absence gives Thompson a roster spot and a chance to make an impact during the friendlies against England and Spain.

Thompson’s first Senior National Team camp is not “make or break” for her future on the team, Andonovski said. Rather, her the call up will provide her with a solid foundation moving forward.

“This is the first experience for her,” he said. “This is something that she shouldn’t even worry about. I think it’s a great experience, great exposure for her. And it’s a good experience for us to have the opportunity to work with her. What happens from there, we will see.”

In addition to making history as the first player born in 2004 to receive a call-up, Alyssa and Gisele became the first high-schoolers to sign an NIL deal with Nike back in May.

Alexandra Eala saw her dream of capturing a first WTA title on home soil end Thursday, as the Filipino tennis star fell to Camila Osorio 6-4, 6-4 in the inaugural Philippine Women's Open quarterfinals.

The matchup pitted the former US Open junior champions against each other in their first professional meeting. However, Alexandra Eala proved unable to overcome the Colombian, as the world No. 49 struggled to find her rhythm against the No. 84.

The opening set saw three double-faults from each competitor, as both had difficulty finding consistency in their serves. Osorio later broke through in the seventh game of the first set, then held serve to build a 5-3 advantage. Alexandra Eala could not recover, dropping the opening frame 6-4.

The second set remained competitive through the first eight games, with the score deadlocked at 4-4 after multiple service breaks by both players. However, Osorio elevated her performance at the crucial moment, breaking Alexandra Eala's serve in the ninth game before closing out the match in the 10th.

Statistical analysis revealed tight margins between the players. Both converted second-serve points at an identical 50% rate. The difference emerged on first serves, where Osorio's 59% conversion rate surpassed Alexandra Eala's 51% efficiency, proving decisive in the straight-sets victory.

"I think it was an overall good week," Eala said postmatch.

"Of course, I'm disappointed about today. I definitely think I've had better days, but it's just how it is. I have to accept it, and there’s always next week."

Fan favorites Juno Temple, Brendan Hunt, and Jeremy Swift also return to reprise their roles alongside the Emmy-winning Hannah Waddingham and two-time Emmy winner Brett Goldstein, who also executive produces and writes for the show.

Debuting in August 2020, the smash-hit shattered records, earning the most Emmy nominations for a comedy show in its first season. It later took home the award for Outstanding Comedy Series in both 2021 and 2022.

The two-jersey lineup includes the white WNBA Nike Heroine Edition with "Fire" written on the front "signifying the city's passion for the team," as well as a red WNBA Nike Explorer Edition "celebrating the Fire's legacy" in the league's return to Portland.

Both jerseys also feature a left shoulder patch for sponsor Chime, after the financial services company officially signed on to be the team's banking and credit partner on Tuesday.

Notably, US players were in the highest demand at 240 transfers — more than double the 108 British athletes comprising the nationality coming in second.

US billionaire Michele Kang's London City Lionesses trail the Blues at No. 2 in just their first WSL season following last spring's promotion, with the also-Kang-owned French side OL Lyonnes clocking in at No. 3 on the transfer fee list.
