During her recovery, she expressed gratitude for her friend Elena, her mother, and her fiancé Daniel, who all flew out to support her. Vandeweghe also gave a shoutout to her ESPN family for constantly checking in on her during the tournament and the hospital staff "who quite literally put me back together again like Humpty Dumpty."
The 34-year-old retired from professional tennis in 2023. Before that, she reached the Wimbledon singles quarterfinals in both 2015 and 2017.
