Naomi Osaka's Wimbledon 2026 run ended Tuesday at the hands of Karolina Muchova. The 10th seed defeated Osaka 7-6(4), 6-4 on Court 1 to reach her first Wimbledon semifinal. With the win, Muchova became just the eighth active player to reach the semifinals at all four Grand Slams.
Muchova's Net Play Dictated Quarterfinal Win Against Osaka
The quarterfinal started with early fireworks as both players traded breaks. Muchova's net play and serving precision gradually took control, though, and after a tight first set reached 6-6, she ran away with the tiebreak 7-4. It was the first set Osaka had dropped all tournament.
From there, the second set stayed on serve until the ninth game. At 4-4, Osaka's unforced errors - she finished with 32 - handed Muchova a decisive break. Muchova sealed it with back-to-back aces, serving out the match to love.
Osaka's Grand Slam Quarterfinal Streak Ends at Wimbledon 2026
Osaka, the 14th seed, entered with a perfect 5-0 record in Grand Slam quarterfinals. Still, fatigue appeared to play a role. She cited the toll of consecutive weeks on tour without a day off as partly to blame for her lapse in form.
"I’m just getting old," Osaka joked after the loss. "It’s hard because I played so well in my last match, then today I just feel like I didn’t play well at all and I didn’t have any energy. I could feel it coming because I’ve played way more matches than I usually do before a Slam."
Despite the loss, Osaka's quarterfinal finish marks her deepest Wimbledon result.
Muchova now faces Coco Gauff in Thursday's Wimbledon semifinal.
