Naomi Osaka beat Jasmine Paolini 6-3 7-6(4) at the Pan Pacific Open 2026 on Monday, scoring her first WTA Tokyo win since claiming the title in her birth city back in 2019.
Naomi Osaka Debuts Custom Hana Yagi Walk-On Outfit in Japan
The world No. 18 celebrated her homecoming by walking onto Center Court in a crane-adorned cape crafted by Tokyo-based designer Hana Yagi.
It's the latest in a series of show-stopping walk-on looks for the four-time Grand Slam champion this season. Earlier this summer, Osaka and Yagi collaborated on a kimono-style gown for her Wimbledon run. She also sported a sea-creature piece by Robert Wun at the Australian Open, and a shimmering gold Eiffel Tower number by Kevin Germanier at Roland Garros.
"I was really glad that [Hana Yagi] wanted to work with me again," Osaka said of her Tokyo look. "For me, I haven't been here for a little bit of a while, so it's just nice to bring a bit of a show here."
Osaka Survives Scare Against Paolini in Tokyo
She delivered on the court, too.
Osaka raced out to a 3-0 first-set lead against the two-time major finalist. And after Paolini clawed back to 3-3, she won three straight to seal the score.
The second set was a different story. Paolini earned three chances to force a decider at 6-5, but Osaka saved each one. She eventually pulled away in the tiebreak to advance to the Round of 16 where she'll face Slovakia's Mia Pohánková.
