UConn women’s basketball closed its preseason in scoring style, as the No. 2 Huskies routed Army 86-50 in Sunday's UConn vs Army showdown at Gampel Pavilion to cap a perfect exhibition run.
UConn Cruises Past Army West Point
The UConn vs Army score turned lopsided fast. UConn outpaced Army 32-7 in the second quarter and led 53 at the break. The Huskies stretched the margin to 31 in the third.
Defense set the tone. UConn trapped ball handlers and pressed full court, forcing 22 turnovers and converting them into 31 points.
Preseason AP All-American Sarah Strong led the way. The junior posted 19 points and 7 rebounds. Allie Ziebell added 13 off the bench and sparked a cold start with back-to-back 3-pointers. Freshman Olivia Vukosa chipped in 9 points, 7 rebounds, and 3 steals.
UConn Roster Takes Shape Ahead of 2026/27 Women's College Basketball Tip-Off
The matchup also tested the UConn's 2026/27 women’s basketball roster. All 10 available players made the scoresheet, while three Huskies reached double figures. Head coach Geno Auriemma leaned on his depth and kept at least one starter on the floor throughout the game.
However, injuries still linger. Blanca Quiñonez (shoulder) and Marine Dursus (foot) missed all three exhibitions, while Auriemma called Morgan Cheli “day-to-day.”
UConn now turns to the real thing, as the women’s college basketball powerhouse opens its 2026/27 NCAA season next Monday against Cornell.
